Default How well does rainwater need to be filtered?

I am new to this whole rainwater harvest community and rainwater harvesting as a whole. I am thinking about building a system of my own and collecting water via the downspout from my roof. How well does rainwater need to be filtered? How much debris generally comes off of the roof? Who makes a good rainwater filter?

Hey Jeepfan,
Rainwater off the roof can contain various leaves and fern needles and the amount of debris depends on how many trees surround your house. The filter can be fairly simple and there are manual and also automatic emptying filters... I would reccomend a filter by RMS http://www.rainwatermanagement.com/products.php Hope this Helps!

yep the house. My house is completely run 100% from rainwater catchment. I tried to start a thread about it but since im a n00b im in moderation.

Thats really only a sediment filter to prevent clogging of fixtures. It does not produce potable water

here is the entire pump room

Nice filter system, I've used those filters often in my work.

Question - you say you use this in your house. What city codes are applicable where you live. Here in KC ALL city codes forbid using captured rainwater for any domestic use except watering the lawn.

Thanks.

Where i live there are no codes (ok well VERY relaxed codes). This is THE only way to have water in your house. There is only county supplied water on the main road. pretty much 100% of the homes in the area I live have catchment.
